I know, I know, you're wondering why I think we need ANOTHER MA thread. Well, because the others are relatively disorganized and without a central purpose. This Guide will have all of the terminology, names, physics, and other information related to MA. This way we will have a reliable source of info instead of having to go back and forth between different threads looking for information. My second post will contain the body of this guide. If you wish to contribute, simply post a portion of text you would like in the guide and I will include it. Please note that this is guide is only for reference, and is in no way official. Some things in this guide may later be revealed to be wrong, but as of the time they are put into the guide it can be presumed that the information is correct, (to my knowledge.)
EDIT: Don't forget to to control f if you are looking for something!

Table of Contents:
Terminology, Inventions, and Abilities People Dates and Events Locations Bestiary
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Terminology, Inventions, and Abilities: Alchemy Combat Magic Compounding Elemental Spirit Elements Familiar Hanging Gardens Key Keychain Mage Sight Magi Magic History Mana Mythril Orichalcum Practical Magic Regni Reus Aeternam Seal of Contract Spirit,(ghost,soul,ghoul,etc.)
ALCHEMY: Alchemy is the transformation of one material to another. Classic examples are water to wine, or iron to gold. In modern times countries have large alchemy factories where magi are hired to create powerful metals, such as mythril or orichalcum, from weaker metals like iron. The Alchemy class in The Magic Academy is taught by Ms. Lear.
COMBAT MAGIC: Combat magic is a type of magic magi use to harm or repel other organisms. Most combat magic is one of the six elements, but some are either devoid of element or arcane. In The Magic Academy Ms. Masters teaches this class.
COMPOUNDING: Compounding is the act of combining different materials to create an effect, either immediately or when consumed. Some people call this potion making. In The Magic Academy, Mr. Lamengo teaches the compounding class.
ELEMENTAL SPIRIT: See Familiar.
ELEMENTS: Mana is categorized into six main elements, Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, Light, and Darkness. Some of these elements are further sub-categorized, such as water to water and ice, or wind to wind and lightning. Mana can also be devoid of any of these and be neutral. Also, there is a small amount of mana in the world know as arcane mana, which is more dense than the other mana.
FAMILIAR: Familiar is a term consisting of all demons, entities or simply spirits that hold a pact with another being. These familiars generally follow the person around, aiding that person. Some familiars are demons, angels, gods, or simply spirits of the deceases. Some are demi-gods, also known as Elemental Spirits, who are less powerful gods who exist in the same plane as the Earth.
HANGING GARDENS: Any large, floting palace that seems to avoid the eternal winter. Most are made out of a variant of white marble. Most are peacful oasises, but others have been corrupted, and are inhabited by various evil beasts. the legendary Troliphic Beast is said to appear in these from time to time. All of the Hanging Gardens have a enchantment that makes them always seem to be in spring. The most famous of these is in Arrahil (Babylon).
KEY: A key is charm cast onto an object, (usually a keychain,) which allows the user to do something they could not do before. The key is not actually physical, simply a magical charm.
KEYCHAIN: A keychain is a device given out to all students in The Magical Academy. Keys are cast onto it to allow the students to do different things, such as access maps, open doors, or reading texts.
MAGE SIGHT: An ability most Magi possess. Mage sight, some say, looks deep within one's soul. More pragmatically, it allows one to view another persons mana. This is important because one's mana reflects the abilities and emotions that person has. It is, however, possible to cloak one's mana, but this too can be overthrown with a more powerful spell.
MAGI: Anyone that can use magic.
MAGIC HISTORY: Magic History is a class taught at the Magic Academy. Students are taught about the events that came to shape the magical world up to that point. Mr. Valentine teaches this class.
MANA: Mana - Mana is a Magus' internal energy battery. It is used to fuel spells, and the amount available is directly related to the magus' condition. Mana appears slightly different for each person, depending on their element and their style of casting. Mana can crystallize, and those crystals are valuable alchemical compounds.
MYTHRIL: An extremely rare metal that is extremely hard, about 4x harder than diamond. Much of this was used in the first World War, especially by the Brazenapplian Army.
ORICHALCUM: A metal even rarer than Mythril. This is the hardest know mineral on earth, being roughly 6x harder than metal. It is known that the war machine Regni Reus Aeternam, used in the first World War, used some Orichalcum.
PRACTICAL MAGIC: Practical Magic is a class taught at the Magic Academy. In this class students are taught how to use simple spells to help with everyday life, as well as in some more dire situations. Mr. Ornry teaches this class.
REGNI REUS AETERNAM: A war machine in development by Brazenapple for the first World War. It was never finished, and it's present location is unknown.
SEAL OF CONTRACT: An emblem that marks a pact between a spirit/familiar and a magus. The seal can be used for many things, like focusing the spirit's energy into an attack, activating certain ancient devices that require a spirit's mana, and sometimes as a status symbol. It is most commonly used as proof of the contract.
SPIRIT: The remaining mana bound to abstract soul material of a person(s) who has no physical entity to exist within.
ALGID OCEAN: The ocean located west of Europe. 95% of this ocean is topped with a 3 meter wall of ice. So thick that even large beasts can move across. The ice, however, obscures the ocean's depths, making it the darkest ocean in the world. Scientists predict that there are at least forty species of unknown carnivorous creatures thriving in the darkness.
ARRAHIL: An ancient city that is also a Hanging Garden. Arrahil is allegedly floating over the middle-east, but this is presently a myth. Our world's equavilent is Babylon.
BLACK FOREST: The Black Forest is located in the southeastern edge of Plumshire, east of Caerdiff but west of The Magic Academy. The mythical Pheracles was discovered to be real when Acacia Lear slayed it in 1473. There are many legends that the blood from that creature leaked into the ground, causing the trees to become sentient. This however, is unconfirmed.
CAERDIFF: The capital of Plumshire. The city has population of roughly 320,000 people. Caerdiff is located in the southeastern portion of Plumshire, west of the Black Forest. Our world's equivilant is Cardiff.
DEATH'S CRUCIFIX: The labyrinth underneath The Magic Academy. It is said that souls congregate here, but not much is known about this place.
THE MAGIC ACADEMY: Being the second largest school in all of Europe, and largest in Plumshire, The Magic Academy has been teaching aspiring magi for over 900 years. The academy is a large tower, reaching for the sky. The tower is precisely one thousand floors high. It is said that a great treasure is kept on the roof, but no one has managed to obtain it, as a force field surrounds the top 100 floors of the academy, and those floors are also off-limits to all students and most staff. Floors 500-850 are student dorms. Floors 851-899 are staff dorms. Floors 1-499 are for school activities. The school year starts on Sept. 1st, and ends on June 1st, with some holiday breaks. Lunch, (which is after the third class,) and dinner is served buffet style. The school teaches five main classes: Magic History, Alchemy, Compounding, Practical Magic, and Combat Magic. Each of these has 10 levels, each of which takes one school year to complete. There are also more advanced classes that students may only enter if referred by a teacher. There is labyrinth under the school, known as Death's Crucifix to the students. This labyrinth stretches far down into the Earth under the school, and allegedly has many secret entrances. Here is a list of important locations: B6: Entrance to Death's Crucifix B5: Barrier B3: Spirit Storage 1st Floor: Entrance 3rd Floor: Orientation Class, Magic History Class 172nd Floor: Practical Magic Class 401st Floor: The dreaded Nurse's office. 499th Floor: Elrosdorf's Office 678th Floor: Akiko's dorm, Willow's dorm. 815th Floor: Lucious' dorm, Amadeus' dorm. 860th Floor: Ms. Lear's chambers. 873rd Floor: Mr. Lamengo's chambers. 881st Floor: Mr. Valentine's chambers. 888th Floor: Mr. Ornry's chambers. 895th Floor: Ms. Master's chambers. 899th Floor: Elrosdorf's chambers. 900th Floor: Barrier 1000th Floor: Roof, Treasure?
Plumshire is still under the Queen's rule, being a monarchy with most other western European regions. The capital of Plumshire is Caerdiff. The Magic Academy, as well as the Black Forest are located in Plumshire.
Bestiary/Deities: Anterops Ice Wolves Pharacles Troliphic Beast
ANTEROPS: The Anterops is one of the more commonly cirrculating immortal legends. It states that the Anterops appears as a large, floating mask in the shape of the sun. Legend has it that it shows itself before humans, and proceeds to ask them three questions. If the human answers two out of the three correct, they get away alive. However, if they fail, the Anterops will attempt to kill them. In battle, the mask will generate a body of visible kinetic energy. The body is usually that of a large, lanky, humanoid lizard. It is said that those caught in it's grasp never escape, and usually end up dieing from the massive amount of energy the Anterops sends through their body. The Anterops has an enormous treasure trove, according to old stories.
ICE WOLVES: Just plain old Arctic Wolves. Packs of these wolves stalk the snow drifts and ice sheets in and around the Algid Ocean. Unlike other wolves, their fur is white to blend in with their surroundings. It is a common rumor that thier fur is actually magical and that it can change color to blend in with the surroundings. Any good Illusionist would say that the tale is false, but no actual tests have been conducted.
PHARACLES: An immortal, deadly beast. There are a grand total of 200 Pheracles' in the world. While they are intelligent, they are ruthless, brutal, and cunning. They appear as towering 10 ft. tall humanoid jackals. A Pheracles will normally walk on two feet, but when it is fighting, it will get down on all fours. When fighting the Pheracles produces large bone-schimitars from its back, and uses them in conjunction with two held in it's front hands/paws. They are said to be the least lavish of the immortal beasts, having a relativeley small horde of treasure, as compared to a Dragon, a Anterops, and the Troliphic Beast.
TROLIPHIC BEAST: A legendary immortal beast that resides in the Hanging Gardens of Arrahil. the strangest thing about that is that it seems to be able to appear in any Hanging Garden it wills. When it appears before mortals, the Troliphic Beast usually appears as a large sabertooth tiger with a wolf's head and ram's horns. With it's dark violet fur, golden wings of an unknown metal, and the bushy tail of a fox, this beast is a strange and imposing sight. It is notably peacful as compared to other immortal beasts. When it has been provoked into battle, it spits large blasts of miasma and uses it's elongated arms to slash its opponents. These abilities are coupled with the ability to distort light and make it seem like there are multiple copies trail the beast. Besides this, nothing else is known.
Right now I have only the locations. Also, I took out breakfast, I hope nobody minds, but two meals a day is already enough to write about.
