I don't beleive I'll write a synopsis on the story here, but creative writing seemed like the best place to put this. I created short summaries on the playable characters, so I decided wth I'll share them with you, reader. The only information that you'll need to know prior is that Mysery is the world that they live in, not including heaven or hell.

Icabod is a vampire to his brother, Van. He lives in his castle with Lucimar, sustaining himself on the untold amounts of blood brought to him by Lucimar from the River Plethorious in Hell. His parents were killed because his brother was feeding on people in a nearby village, which caused them to burn his parents on crosses. Van and Icabod escaped, but Icabod was mortally wounded. To save his dying brother Van turned Icabod into a vampire. That was about fifty years ago. Icabod practiced swordplay with his father and brother when he was alive.
Lucimar is a sinner who escaped Hell by bargaining with Icabod; he would summon immeasurable amounts of blood for Icabod if Icabod became his link to Mysery. As a result of this bargain, Lucimar has escaped his punishment in Hell, but is still a wanted fugitive there. Lucimar tries to act cool, and is usually the one who convinces Icabod to commit murders. Lucimar’s left hand was tainted in Hell, and now has large claws. With this he can steal souls from unlucky victims. With these souls he enhances the abilities of his dark blade, Mittenacht Gipfel, but is power really worth a human soul?...
Cedar is a purple-haired historian/scientist who spends most of his time experimenting. He is an adept mage and can use a vast array of magic spells. He is also very kind, so much so that he takes in unfortunate travelers who have no where else to go. Despite this Cedar is reclusive to most people. He is also overly interested in studying the Ouroboros. Perhaps he has a dark side….?
Elle is a catholic reformist who is fighting against the growing army of the dark with her husband Luciano. She believes strongly in her faith, and is very dependant on her husband. Elle also believes that no children of the dark deserve to live on Mysery. To subjugate evil she uses crosses to funnel her magical abilities, but she can also hold fairly well with only bare fists and feet.
Fera is a red-haired werewolf living in the forest surrounding Icabod’s citadel of darkness. She used to live with her grandfather, but he was recently killed by Autumn. Fera is hot-headed and believes in justice. In order to survive she hunts down prey with her claws and maw, however, because the animals around Icabod’s fortress have been tainted with the hellish blood emanating from the castle, she too is picking up hellish traits.
Forcystus is a devil living in the city of Dis, working as an assassin in the company Zeresimo Inc. Despite his demonic nature, he is usually upbeat and tries to make jokes to lighten the mood. Generally he doesn’t mind his job, as killing someone in Hell simply relocates them into the circle they are best fit for punishment. Forcystus does not believe that he did wrong by rebelling against God, and in fact thinks that it was inevitable. Due to this he believes that God is not fit to rule the world because of his outdated belief system. Forcystus has mastered fighting with two swords, a short sword for his right hand and a claymore or other similar sword for his left.
Autumn is a brown-haired girl who lived in poverty in Mysery, until she was unfortunate enough to stumble into Icabod’s abode, looking for shelter from a blizzard. Lucimar took advantage of her and killed her at twelve o’clock that night. For some reason, though, he decided not to steal her soul. Autumn was a pagan, and therefore was sent to hell after her death. She found herself in Limbo, where she decides to descend down into the deeper levels of Hell. There she meets and befriends Forcystus, and she helps him with his assassinations from then on. When alive, Autumn used a bow and arrows to hunt for food. Now she uses them to enchant magic spells and skewer roving demons.
Memnon is a creature of darkness, created by Lucifer to fight against the Angels during the revolt against God. It is but one of a vast army of dark wanderers created for that purpose. Now, however, it has no purpose, and has been barred from both heaven and hell. Memnon now has been trapped in a large burial chamber inside of a pyramid. It is trapped there by a curse placed upon it by the native Verloran tribe. There it holds pieces of the Ouroboros, waiting for someone to fight. Memnon does battle with puppets it makes from souls of fallen opponents. With these puppets it summons the soul of that puppet to fight for it.
Luciano is a catholic knight who fights with his wife Elle against the darkening legions of the undead, as well as creatures who have found a way out of Hell. He has never questioned God and believes that one who trusts in God builds well. He does not believe the Pope is leading the Catholic religion well, but ignores him believing that God will do what is necessary to lead the Catholics to the chosen paths. Luciano deplores Icabod and Lucimar for their disregard for human life, and has decided that he will cleanse the world of all filth like them. Luciano has adopted his father’s fighting style, which employs a long spear to skewer opponents from afar. With this he believes he can carry out God’s will.
Ian is an angel from heaven, sent to Mysery to close an opened gate to Hell. He is an Ishim, which is the lowest in the hierarchy of angels. Like all angels he wears a white mask and a white robe, but he wishes he was not forced to wear these. He doubts God’s morality and seeks to find true justice, however this may lead him to journeys unknown. Ian utilizes the advanced technology of Heaven by hunting with two hand guns. The bullets he fires are spiritual in nature, only damaging the victim’s soul, leaving not even a scratch on the victim’s body.
Van is Icabod’s brother, whom is asleep when Icabod and Lucimar leave on their journey. There he has been sleeping for fifty years, for unknown reason. However, Icabod knew he would eventually awaken so he kept Van in a crypt deep below his mansion. When Van awakens he sets out to find his brother. Van is a skeptical person believing only in things he has seen with his own eyes. He is also very analytical, which causes him to disagree with many people. He has a kind side, however, and attempts to save many people. This is possibly because he feels he is responsible for the deaths of his parents, of which he witnessed fifty years prior. Van practiced using a sword whilst he was alive, but since then he has had to improvise with an axe. He is also attempting to use some magic.
Ajma is an old man who has a strange connection to another universe. In this alternate reality there is abundant technology. Due to his talents, Icabod, Lucimar and Cedar look to him for help to cross the great mines of the eastern mountain ranges. For them he creates a drilling robot that he had seen in the alternate dimension. From then on the group came to him for any of their robotic needs. Ajma makes certain rude comments concerning the women around him, which has earned him the nickname ‘pervy old man’.
Nobody is a mysterious being residing in the first ring of the seventh circle of Hell. There he sells information, but what is he really?

As you can tell some of those are overly vague, but that is to avoid [spoilers]. You may also notice that there are thirteen of them, there is reason for my madness. Each of them is a counterpart the the thirteen malebranche. Yup. I might post about them sometime too, but right now I've done enough work.

So, you want to know the meaning of those names, eh? Well alright, here they are!
Icabod is named after Icabod Crain from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Lucimar is a combination of Lucifer and Olimar. Do you think I'm crazy now?
Cedar's name I wanted to be natural, since he's a scientist. I liked the names in Phantom Brave, so I wanted it to be an object in nature. I remember in Baten Kaitos there is a small boy named Cedr. I added an a to make it into a natural object like I wanted.
Elle means 'guiding light' in greek. However, like most of the names that mean things, it turns out that the name may not fit the character as well as it first may seem, as throughout the story Elle is the one who needs a guiding light.
Fera is the word feral without the l, which makes sense since she's a werewolf.
Forcystus is the most badass name in existance, deal with it.
I have no idea where I came up with the name Autumn.
Memnon is named after Agamemnon from the Illiad and the Oddessy.
Luciano is italian for 'bright'.
Ian means 'God's Gift' in arabic, but it turns out he's anything but.
Van is named after the same-named character in Tales of the Abyss.
Ajma is the first of seven heavens in Anglo-Saxon paganism.
Nobody is nobody.
Plethorious is the third river in Dante's Inferno. It is a river of boiling blood that sinners who commited violent crimes against other people must endure.
Mittenacht Gipfel, (Lucimar's sword,) is german for midnight's apex.
Ouroboros, (who, in the story, was the original death,) is a snake biting it's tail, representing eternity, in eastern mythology.
Mysery is a play on the word misery, (who wulda thunk it?)
Dis is the capital of Hell in Dante's Inferno.
Zeresimo Inc. is named after the Italian word for zero, zeresimo.
Limbo is the first circle of Hell in Dante's Inferno. It is where people who did not commit great sins but did not believe in God are sent.
Verloran, (the tribe,) is arabic for 'lost'.
In my next post I will introduce some of the NPCs.

Pier is the tribe leader of the Verloran. He found Memnon 30 years prior and sealed him in a tomb inside of a large pyramid. His name is short for pierdut, which means lost in romanian.
The Pope is the potentate of the catholic religion. He has become corrupt and thinks of his vatican army as simple pawns. He believes that what he speaks is God's word, despite the ethical problems.
Adder is an employee in Zeresimo Inc. He is the Ambassador of Hell in Mysery, but actually is there to open up gates to the underworld. Wielding dual chainsaws, Adder is very dangerous. He is defeated by Icabod's crew on the return trip from killing Memnon.
Viper is another employee hired by Zeresimo Inc. He attempts to persaude angels to rebel against God, but is later killed by Luciano and Ian. To fight, Viper uses Ninjutsu.
Serpent is a high-ranking employee in Zeresimo Inc., where he watches over Adder and Viper to make sure they are doing their jobs. He fights to the death for his boss, in the fortress of Hell, Pandemonium, making him the penultimate boss. Serpent has a large laser cannon that he uses to obliterate foes.
Snake is the head-honcho at Zeresimo Inc. He is the richest demon in Hell, and actually has a joyful life. He is extremely sadistic and is the cause of poverty in Dis. He fights with whatever the enemy uses against him. Turns out he's the final boss.
Camille is a vampire that resides in Dis, and owns the only library there. Forcystus has to go through the hidden halls of the library many times. It is believed that Camille holds the Necronomicon somewhere in the library....
Dracula is a wannabe-vampire, (dubbed 'wampire' by Lucimar.) Him and Icabod duke it out for a piece of the Ouroboros.
Alucard is also a wampire, who happens to be Dracula's son. He also holds a fragment of Ouroboros, and so is killed by Icabod and team. Both him and his father later appear in Pandemonium as high-tier bosses.
Malacoda is the leader of the malebranche, and is the counterpart for Forcystus. He is cold and unforgiving, and thinks that he is the best at everything he does. He fights with two broad swords. His true form is a giant scorpion.
Scarmiglione is a necrophiliac, which repulses most of the other Malebranche. He is very unintelligent, which is apparent in his plans to take over the position of head of the Malebranche from Malacoda. He fights with a large club. His true form is a large rotting corpse. He is the counterpart to Memnon.

Barbariccia is the second in command of the Malebranche. She has a secret love of Malacoda, but is too shy to tell him. For being a demon lord, she is relatively innocent and naive, believing that the people she tortures are nothing more than 'dolls' and 'puppets'. Her true form is that of a wilted rose, and her counterpart is Ian.
Cagnazzo is a large, dog-like demon who wields an axe many times larger than he is. He is constantly practicing his fighting skills, wanting to become stronger. He is know as the 'Guillotine of Hell' and has beheaded countless souls. His true form is a giant dog, and his counterpart is Van.
Calcabrina is a mermaid-like demon who is very boisterous. She always insults the other Malebranche for their failed attempts at stopping Icabod, Forcystus, Luciano, and Van. She is self-centered and does not care for others feelings, always believing that she should come first before everyone else. Her true form is a very tall woman who can walk on water, and her counterpart is Elle.
Libicocco is the lead guitarist and vocalist for his own band 'The Hellians', of which he is the only member. Despite all this he is not very popular, most likely because most people in Hell are unable to come to his concerts. He tries to force people to go to his concerts by using his guitar as a weapon. His true form is a huge crocodile, and his counterpart is Autumn.
Graffiacane is a battle-centered maniac, thinking that the most important thing in life is to fight. He hopes he one will day find someone who can truly challenge his fighting skills. He fights with large claws that have grown onto his hands. His true form is a small dog that can move faster than sound, and his counterpart is Lucimar.
Draghinazzo is an insane old man. It is said that he was once a kind and gentle angel, until he was deceived by Satan to rebell against The Lord. He regretted that day, and lost his sanity because of it. Draghinazzo has mastered using a wide range of fire spells, and his true form is a dragon. His counterpart is Icabod.
Ciriatto loves to eat. He owns the token chinese restaraunt in all of hell, but that restaurant has a dark side. The customers that come in never come out, because Ciriatto devours them! It is said that Ciriatto would even eat his closest friends if he was hungry. Ciriatto needs no normal fighting style, he simply eats his opponents whole! His true form is a large hog, and his counterpart is Fera, who just so happens to love chinese.
Farfarello is very jealous of the other Malebranche. He believes that money is power, and that the other Malebranche are all secretly stealing money from him. Due to this, he has started killing people and stealing their valuables out of his insecurity. Farfarello has bat wings and can use powerful dark magic. He also throws money at his opponents in desperate times. His trueform is a giant bat, and his counterpart is Cedar.
Rubicante is truly evil and delights himself in torturing others. He believes that if he can bring enough pain into the world that Satan will revive. His true form is a very tall red man, and his counterpart is Ajma.
The final member of the Malebranche is Nameless. It is a complete mystery to everyone. It wears a black cloak that obscures it's face, and has mastered the art of timespace magic. His true form is unknown and his counterpart is Nobody.
Abaddon is a minor devil who resides in pandemonium. He fights the party with swarms of locusts.
Abraxas is the lord of the human-like Abrax, which are the bodies of sinners sewn together and forced to fight. Abraxas is fought in pandemonium.
Baal is the third most powerful enemy in pandemonium, using his large figure to dwarf opponents.
Beelzebub is indeed the 'lord of the flies', being yet another demon residing in pandemonium.
Dantalion is one with many faces. He attempts to trick the party before being bested in pandemonium. He is an adept magic user.
Legion is many. Legion is one.
Rofocales is a griffin-winged man-devil who attempts to stop the party in pandemonium.

Xaphan tried to set Heaven ablaze during the revolt. Now he sets fire to the halls of Pandemonium, but no one seems to mind.

I came up with most of this way before I started learning online, Jof. But yes, far too much time. My mind cannot handle the boundaries, I'm afraid.
